The Purple Playspace is student-focused in-school Drama Programming, specialized in developing social & emotional skills. Co-Created by a team of  Creative Arts Therapists and Speech & Language Pathologist, The Purple Playspace helps to increase self-awareness, understand empathy, and regulate emotions using Drama and the Arts. Our engaging one-hour sessions teach social skills, focusing on concepts of emotional regulation/zones of regulation and empathy, through drama and embodied learning. We create a trusting, playful environment where students feel comfortable to explore their own feelings and the feelings of others as they play, move, and learn!

We offer two streams of in-class programming:
  • The Orange program is designed for classes of mostly neurotypical students who are able to engage in group problem-solving
    most appropriate for grades 1-6
  • The Green program is designed for higher-needs classes of mostly neurodiverse students who are working on more basic social skills

As students attempt to navigate their own emotions, their awareness of others, and their social environments, we believe our Purple Playspace is  relevant & beneficial to all students!

One of our parents unmuted [during a parent's council meeting] and said her grade 1 son could not stop talking about [the Purple Playspace]. He kept saying – we talked about our feelings – it was so good – then he went on to ask his brother if his class had it too.
