Beyond the Stage: Celebrating Disability Pride Month with Purple Carrots Drama Studio

By July 7, 2026No Comments

July marks Disability Pride Month, a vibrant time to celebrate the history, achievements, and distinct perspectives of the disability community. Here at Purple Carrots Drama Studio, this month holds a deeply personal meaning. It’s a time to turn up the volume on the voices of our participants—affectionately known as our “Carrots”—and honor the incredible ways they shape our creative community every single day.

To Our Carrots: We See You and Celebrate You

True creativity flourishes when people feel safe, seen, and supported to be exactly who they are. In our inclusive studio spaces, we witness magic happen every week. Whether it’s through collaborative scriptwriting, improvisational movement, or sensory-friendly theater games, our community consistently demonstrates that there is no single “right” way to create art.

To our Carrots: We are incredibly proud to work alongside you. We see your immense creativity, your unique insights, and the joy you bring to our collaborative spaces. You don’t just participate in our community; you define it.

The Work Continues: Breaking Down Barriers to Inclusion

While Disability Pride Month is a celebration, it is also a call to action. We must openly acknowledge that the world does not always automatically make space for disabled or neurodivergent individuals. True accessibility goes far beyond installing ramps; it requires transforming attitudes, reimagining spaces, and intentionally dismantling social boundaries.

There is still so much work to be done to build a world where everyone can fully participate without fear of judgment or exclusion. At Purple Carrots, we remain committed to using the adapted arts as a vehicle for self-advocacy, confidence-building, and social change.

What Are You Proud Of? Share Your Story!

Pride isn’t just a month on a calendar—it’s built in the everyday moments of creation, connection, and stepping outside of our comfort zones.

We want to use our platform to amplify your achievements. Whether you’ve tried a new creative outlet, spoken up for your needs, or created a piece of art that makes you smile, we want to hear about it!

Our question to you: What is something you have done, expressed, or created recently that you are incredibly proud of?

Leave a comment below, connect with us on our social media channels, or drop by the studio to share your pride. Let’s celebrate together!
