There’s something in the air at Artscape Youngplace this fall — and it’s not just the leaves changing. Purple Carrots Drama Studio is returning for a new season of inclusive, arts-based programming, and this time, we’re doing it with a twist: you’ve been accepted to The Carrot Academy of Purple Monsters.
Picture a glowing full moon rising behind a rambling, turreted mansion. A gate creaks open. Somewhere inside, a monster in a top hat is holding up a comedy mask and grinning. That’s the spirit we’re bringing to our studio this fall — playful, a little spooky, and full of the kind of imaginative energy that’s been at the heart of Purple Carrots for the last 10 years.
Three Sessions, One Academy
Whether you’re 9 or 90 (well — 21 and up, at least), there’s a place for you at the Academy this fall. All sessions run at Artscape Youngplace and combine drama, music and movement, and visual art in the same participant-led, facilitator-guided format that’s become “the Purple Carrots way.”

Saturdays, October 17 – December 5 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM
🕯️ Teens & Young Adults | Ages 16–20
Saturdays, October 17 – December 5 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM
🕯️ Adults | Ages 21+
Sundays, October 18 – December 6 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
What Makes the Academy Different
At Purple Carrots, we’ve always believed that great arts programming starts with meeting participants exactly where they are. Our sessions are structured — there’s a rhythm and routine that helps everyone feel grounded — but what fills that structure is shaped by the people in the room. No two sessions look quite the same, because no two groups of participants are quite the same.
This fall’s Carrot Academy theme is a fun new frame for that same philosophy: every participant gets to be part of building the world, the characters, and the stories that unfold session by session. Think of it less like a class and more like enrolling in something a little magical.
Giggle Power: On
Ten years in, we’re still guided by the same core idea: art is better when it’s made together. Our fall lineup gives kids, teens, and adults alike a place to explore drama, movement, and visual art in a welcoming, inclusive space — no experience necessary, just curiosity (and maybe a willingness to embrace your inner purple monster).
