Winter Programs

‘Purple Jam Improv’

Improvisation (improv) is acting without a script. Everything you see is completely spontaneous and made up on the spot. Much like life, improv is unscripted—it invites us to notice what’s happening around us and choose how to adapt, initiate, or respond. Successful communication—whether on stage or in everyday life—relies on social and executive-functioning skills like listening, awareness of self and others, perspective-taking, predicting, inferencing, turn-taking, and storytelling. Improv provides a playful, supportive and low-pressure way to explore these skills in action.
Through team-building activities, modified theatre exercises, adapted improv games (and plenty of shared laughter) participants will learn to work collaboratively with others, develop their independent thinking and creatively, all while having fun and gaining confidence and trusting relationships in the process. We will learn the value of every contribution in an encouraging, supportive and affirming environment.
This program is led by Liv Meriano M.Sc., R-SLP. Liv completed her undergraduate degree in Speech Sciences at Brock University prior to completing her Masters of Science in Speech-Language Pathology, with a minor in Audiology at the University of British Columbia. Liv’s undergraduate and masters thesis research focused on using theatre techniques to develop and measure social-pragmatic skills - let’s just say she loves an excuse to be silly in the name of science!

A Note on Commitment & Attendance
Our workshops are small and intentionally capped at 6-8 participants to ensure each person has space to grow, connect, and contribute meaningfully. Because of this, we ask everyone to treat their registration as a commitment to the full 8 weeks. While we understand that life happens and occasional absences may occur, missing multiple sessions can impact not only your experience but the group dynamic as a whole. Please review our cancellation policy and reach out in advance if you foresee any conflicts. We deeply value your time and energy — and want to ensure every Carrot gets the full benefit of our shared creative journey.
